APC wins Kastina bye- election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared  Mansur Ali Mashi of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), as winner of  Saturday’s House of Representatives by-election for Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency in Katsina State.

 The Returning Officer, Professor Hudu Ayuba of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who announced the results  at Mashi on Sundaymorning  , declared that Mansur Ali Mashi of the APC polled 27,968 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nazif  Ayuba of the Peoples’ Democratic Party(PDP), who scored 19,451votes.

Kabir AbdulKadir of the Peoples’ Redemption Party,( PRP), polled  332 votes, to emerge third.

The election was held in the twenty-one wards that make up Mashi /Dutsi Federal Constituency.

The election witnessed large turnout of voters , although some of them complained of non appearance of their names on the voters lists displayed at  polling stations.

The election was generally peaceful but  activities of hoodlums especially in  Dutsi town led to abrupt end of election in some polling stations there.
