News: Tolani Baj Claims She Inspired J Hus and Drake’s Song

Big Brother Naija alumna Tolani Baj recently revisited her controversial comments about men dancing in clubs during an interview on Clout Radio. In a playful manner, she suggested that her previous remarks might have inspired British rapper J Hus' song “Who Told You Bad Man Don’t Dance,” which features Drake. While clarifying her position, she emphasized that she is not against men dancing but stressed the importance of doing so in a "respectful" manner.

Tolani Baj, who also works as a DJ, addressed the issue directly, saying, “I am a DJ, people can dance. Everybody can dance. You guys are still owing me from the tweet [that men shouldn’t dance in clubs]. I tweeted it years ago. Can I breathe? I even inspired J Hus’ song, ‘Who Told You Bad Man Don’t Dance.’ TBaj told y’all. Men can dance, they can legwork but respectfully. Because if you’ve a babe, you can’t be embarrassing her like that.”

Her light-hearted claim about inspiring the song comes after a series of events in March 2023 when her tweet about men dancing in clubs received widespread criticism. In her tweet, she expressed her preference for men to sit down in clubs rather than dance, stating, “I get turned off when a guy dances in the club. Like sit down and pretend to be a big boy.” The backlash prompted her to clarify her stance during an appearance on the BTS Reality audio-visual podcast in April. She explained that her tweet had been misinterpreted, suggesting that the criticism was more about her as the messenger than the actual message she was trying to convey.

“I feel like a lot of people understood what I meant but they chose to misunderstand me,” she said, reflecting on the reactions to her tweet. Tolani Baj further elaborated, “If you are going to go to the club, I’m not saying you shouldn’t try to dance or be cool, but why are you doing like this [dancing aggressively] and being the centre of attraction?”

In her recent interview, Tolani Baj reinforced her belief that dancing should be done with consideration for others, especially if one has a partner, to avoid causing embarrassment. Her remarks highlight the fine line public figures must navigate when expressing personal opinions, especially on social media platforms where messages can easily be misconstrued.
